The primary reason to secure rights, as opposed to "giving it all away" for the benefit of all, is a basic economic reality. Unless an investor can have return of capital and a return on capital, they will not invest. Without investment in production lines, the cost of the engine will be very high and nobody will benefit. The utopian notion of helping the poor will never come to being.
If you want "free energy" all you need is this technology at a low cost. If you get 1000 mpg on Natural gas, you are 1:200 the current fuel costs, or basically "free energy." We don't need "cold fusion" or some magical new source of energy.
